Welding (CA & JSC)

Upon successful completion of the Welding Certificate, the student will be able to demonstrate skills in SMAW (shielded metal arc welding), OFW and OFC (oxy-fuel welding and cutting), Plasma cutting, GMAW (gas metal arc welding), and GTAW (gas tungsten arc welding) on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum in all positions and all joint configurations.

Requirements for AA-T or AS-T degree:

Completion of 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:

  • 40 units from either the Intersegmental General
  • Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education- Breadth Requirements.
  • A minimum of 18 semester units in the major as determined by the required courses described below.
  • Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0.

Students must earn a “C” or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. A “P” (Pass) grade is also an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis, where a Pass is defined as a “C” or better.

In the Welding (CA) program, students will receive training for entry-level job employment in welding shops, sheet metal shops, metal fabrication, and maintenance.
