Child Development

Students who pursue Child Development Degrees and Certificates will master the supporting of early learning and development; planning and guiding early learning and development; creating and maintaining program policies and practices; advancing the early childhood profession.

Requirements for AA-T or AS-T degree:

Completion of 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:

  • 40 units from either the Intersegmental General
  • Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education- Breadth Requirements.
  • A minimum of 18 semester units in the major as determined by the required courses described below.
  • Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0.

Students must earn a “C” or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. A “P” (Pass) grade is also an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis, where a Pass is defined as a “C” or better.

Students may earn an A.A. degree in Child Development or an Associate Teacher Certificate, Teacher Certificate, Early Child Care Administration Specialization Certificate, and Early Intervention Assistant Certificate.

This program is designed for student’s interested working with infants, toddlers, preschools or school-age children in a childcare setting. Students may earn an A.A. degree in Child Development or an Associate Teacher Certificate, Teacher Certificate, Early Child Care Administration Specialization Certificate, and Early Intervention Assistant Certificate.

The Early Child Care Administration Specialization Certificate of Achievement is designed to prepare students to work with adults in early care and education settings.

This program is designed for student’s interested working with infants, toddlers, preschools or school-age children in a childcare setting. Students may earn an A.A. degree in Child Development or an Associate Teacher Certificate, Teacher Certificate, Early Child Care Administration Specialization Certificate, and Early Intervention Assistant Certificate.

The Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education for Transfer provides a clearly articulated curricular track for students who wish to transfer to a CSU campus, while also serving the diverse needs of students interested in the breadth and depth of the field of early childhood education. Additionally, this degree exposes students to the core principles and practices of the field in order to build a foundation for their future personal, academic, or vocational paths.

The Early Intervention Assistant Certificate of Achievement is designed to prepare students to work with infants, toddlers, and young children with disabilities and other special needs in early intervention settings and inclusive early care and education settings.
