The Certificate of Achievement in Commercial Music is designed for students wishing to gain the necessary skills and expertise to work in the field of music. Completion of a Certificate in Music expands career opportunities including (but not limited to) private teacher/instructor, solo and/or ensemble performer, accompanist, composer, arranger, publisher, and music administrator.

Requirements for AA-T or AS-T degree:

Completion of 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:

  • 40 units from either the Intersegmental General
  • Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education- Breadth Requirements.
  • A minimum of 18 semester units in the major as determined by the required courses described below.
  • Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0.

Students must earn a “C” or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. A “P” (Pass) grade is also an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis, where a Pass is defined as a “C” or better.

The Commercial Music Certificate of Achievement is designed to prepare students for employment in a variety of commercial music and music production settings such as music performance in rock/pop/jazz bands, music marketing, music sales, music publishing, studio recording, recording studio assistant, and live sound engineering.
