FOSTER YOUTH SUCCESS PROGRAM (FYSP)

The Foster Youth Success Program (FYSP) supports current and former foster youth and homeless/unaccompanied youth reaching for higher education. 

Program Overview:

• Provides individual Support and hands-on guidance from application to degree completion
• Provides academic, personal, and career counseling
• Assistance with completion of the financial aid application, scholarships and Chafee Grant, if eligible
• Priority registration
• Career exploration, transfer planning, and competition of student education plan (SEP)
• Free school supplies and hygiene kits (contingent upon funding)

Eligibility Criteria:

• Be enrolled at Porterville College
• Open to all ages of students who have experience at least one of the following:
  • Foster Care
  • Legal Guardianship
  • Emancipation
  • Homeless Youth as defined by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
• Documentation/verification required, assistance will be provided
• Complete of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application
