Celebrating our First Generation Students
This November, colleges and universities across the country celebrate the success of first-generation college students, faculty, and staff on their campuses. PC extended this celebration to a full week of events to celebrate those First Generation Students, Faculty & Staff among us. The week began on Monday with a party in the quad that included a Photobooth, music and snacks for all attendees.
The week also included events such as luncheons, Study Breaks, Ice Cream Socials, and mixers that hosted discussions on issues affecting first-generation students, interactions between faculty, students, mentors, and peers; and celebrations of heritage and education.
This acknowledgement for students who were the first to attend college from each of their families was started in 2017 as the National First-Generation Day. Many of our first-generation students can attest to the power of higher education in transforming lives and increasing opportunities for socioeconomic upper mobility.
