FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Porterville College Art Gallery is excited to present After CSU Summer Arts: Porterville College ART<ANTHROPOCENE>ACTION Reunion, an exhibition showcasing the works of three Porterville College students: Sam Bradley, Lili Alvarado, and Juan Orozco. The show runs from September 12 to September 19, 2024, with an opening reception on September 12 from 5 to 7 pm.
This exhibition represents a continuation of the students’ artistic journey following their participation in the ART<ANTHROPOCENE>ACTION CSU Summer Arts program, where they were encouraged to create philosophically driven artworks that prioritize critical ideas over traditional fine art aesthetics. Their works respond to urgent environmental concerns and critiques how contemporary society is using resources at an unsustainable rate.
Lili Alvarado’s works emphasize community engagement, focusing on collaborative efforts where individuals come together to work toward common environmental goals. Her pieces invite audiences to reflect on the importance of community in addressing ecological crises.
Sam Bradley utilizes traditional forms of painting, along with video and experimental sculpture, to examine issues within the Anthropocene era. His work poses important questions and encourages further reflection on humanity’s impact on the planet.
Juan Orozco presents a diverse range of projects, each addressing environmental issues in unique ways. One of his standout pieces is a piñata, a playful yet deeply symbolic work that encourages critical reflection on deforestation and palm oil harvesting. Alongside this, Orozco’s sculptural works focus on the act of planting trees and flowers as a form of ecological restoration.
This exhibition is a unique opportunity for the Porterville community to witness how these three artists have integrated their summer learning into new works that continue to provoke thought and action on climate change and environmental concerns.
Visitors can explore After CSU Summer Arts: Porterville College ART<ANTHROPOCENE>ACTION Reunion during gallery hours: Monday through Thursday from 12 to 4 pm. Complimentary parking permits are available upon request at the front desk.
