Flying from History, Too Close to the Sun: The Anxious, Jubilant Futurism of Contemporary 'Age of Man' Environmentalism

 

Arthur Obst received his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Washington: Seattle. As of Fall 2023, he is formally affiliated with UCHV in his capacity as a Postdoctoral Associate in the High Meadows Environmental Institute and University Center for Human Values (UHCV) at Princeton University. Obst's research lies at the intersection of traditional environmental philosophy and the ongoing climate crisis. His dissertation clarifies the conceptual underpinnings of classical US preservation thought with the aim of establishing its pressing social and political relevance today. He is published in Environmental Values and Environmental Ethics and is co-author of Dialogues on Climate Justice with Stephen Gardiner (Routledge, 2023).
