California Community College Athletic Association
Athlete of the Month
Porterville College freshman guard Alex Shew capped an outstanding rookie season with some great performances in the month of February. In five games last month, Shew averaged 26.8 points per game for the Pirates. Her 34 points on Feb. 23 led Porterville to a 72-63 victory at Taft College. The point-total was the best output by a Central Valley Conference player - which she surpassed a week later. Shew's 35 points against undefeated conference champion Fresno on Feb. 20 gave her the top CVC scoring mark for 2009-10. During February, Shew shot 47.5% from the floor including 38% from three-point range. In ten CVC games, Shew led the conference in scoring (26.2 ppg). She also led all California freshmen guards in overall scoring (21.4 ppg). Shew earned First Team All-CVC honors, and finished runner-up for MVP.
